Tempo Assistant¶
Operator: tempo.co | Type: Non-detector | Cost: Grant-funded
TL;DR
An adjacent pointer, not a verification tool. Tempo's JournalismAI-prototype conversational interface that centralises five decades of editorial archive for an Indonesian newsroom; included here because newsroom AI orchestration is a coherent workflow design pattern, not because Tempo Assistant itself is something other newsrooms can deploy.
What it does¶
Tempo Assistant is an internal Tempo prototype that lets newsroom staff query roughly fifty years of Tempo's editorial archive through a conversational interface. The tool surfaces prior Tempo coverage relevant to a current verification or investigative question; it does not detect manipulation, score suspect content, or generate verdicts on specific claims.
When to use it¶
A regional newsroom is studying how an Indonesian peer has orchestrated AI assistance around verification work and wants a documented design pattern to reference. A funder or institutional partner is reviewing newsroom-AI prototypes in Southeast Asia and Tempo's JournalismAI prototype is one of the relevant SEA-grounded examples.
Limitations¶
Limitations
- Archival retrieval only; no real-time manipulation detection. Treating this as a detection or verification tool is a category error.
- Internal Tempo prototype; not packaged for deployment by other newsrooms. The tool is documented through JournalismAI / IFCN ENGAGE channels rather than published as a reusable product.
Privacy and threat model¶
Internal Tempo deployment runs on Tempo's editorial infrastructure under that organisation's data-handling terms. Other newsrooms that wished to build something similar would inherit their own infrastructure decisions and would not operate inside Tempo's data flow.
Country and platform applicability¶
Indonesia only. The tool exists inside Tempo's operational environment and is documented through Tempo's JournalismAI prototype context.
How to access¶
Internal Tempo deployment. External access is through JournalismAI / IFCN ENGAGE prototype documentation; there is no install or sign-up path for non-Tempo users.
Cost (current as of 2026-05)¶
Grant-funded prototype inside Tempo. No external cost framework because no external deployment surface exists.
In the toolkit's workflow¶
Adjacent pointer at 2A.4 under the cell's marginal-inclusion framing. The card exists to acknowledge that newsroom AI orchestration is a coherent workflow design pattern in Indonesia, not to recommend deployment. The reader's operational route into MAFINDO/Tempo work is via Kalimasada at 2B.1 and Tempo Detektif Deepfake at 2A.3 ; this entry sits adjacent to those primary deployments.
This card carries no detector signal class. Per the template (non-detector card), no Independent Accuracy admonition and no Conflict Resolution Behaviour paragraph apply.
Override notes¶
Override notes
- Adjacent pointer, not detection tool (adjacent-pointer- not-detection-tool): the card frames Tempo Assistant as a workflow design-pattern reference inside the INCLUDE MARGINALLY verdict for 2A.4, not as a deployable detection or verification tool.
